Making Decisions

Thinking about the advises we get and how it shapes or helps shape our decisions and outcomes.

Back in Uni, I had the desire that once I’m thru I would proceed to Lagos. Didn’t know much about the place then. A friend said we would relocate together and another told me that I may not be able to make it in Lagos. According to her it’s only girls that have sugar daddies that survive in Lagos and so she didn’t understand my desire.

When I had an opportunity of an employment, the Chairman asked where I wanted and I remembered my desire and plan so I said Lagos. And off to Lagos in 1991 I went. In the cause of living in Lagos then, I recalled the caution of another friend and I looked at every female that seemed successful in Lagos with one kain eye…who be her sugar daddy?

As time went on I bought my first car “Triumph Acclaim” 😂🤣😆😜 Didn’t see anyone else with that make of car sha. Then I moved up and bought a Honda Accord “Honda Hala” and was driving down 3rd Mainland Bridge feeling good with myself when I remembered my friend again and the thought came “So Osila, who is your sugar daddy?” Oh! I bought these cars with my money…from my salary.”  “Now you see? What about those other girls you used your friend’s brush to paint?” So I learnt not to be hasty in drawing conclusions about people based on hearsay.

I recall too my bid to loss some weight and a slightly older friend said we need to forget such dreams. That as you approach your late forties, mid-age spread is natural and there’s is nothing you could do about it. I gave it some thought for a while and reduced my zeal to loss weight but somehow I kept thinking about it and continued work outs. And as I approached late forties and the weight was not bulging I almost got frantic and then I broke my leg bringing the weight back on. Still on the matter, I clocked golden but I didn’t give up. Today my efforts have paid off so well and I’m fit and trim. Again I learnt that we must be careful the counsel we listen to.

It’s not so much as what we listen to that matters but what we do with it. We’ve got two open 👂🏾👂🏾so we hear even unsolicited counsel…not all counsels are wrong and even the wrong ones may not have been given out of mischief or a desire to mislead but we have a full responsibility for each and every decision and action that we take.

Let’s prayerfully process our information and depend on the Holy Spirit to guide us. There is a lot of good around as well as possibilities waiting to be explored. Are we ready to challenge ourselves & make those decisions?

Christ is risen. He is alive and because He lives, our future is assured.

You are so right. We must truly be careful the advises we choose to follow. Rightly put, the Holy Spirit is our best teacher and guide. Philippians 4:13 – The grace to do all things has been made available to us. We should take advantage of it, prayerfully with full dependent on the Holy Spirit.

Yes it’s right to guide our decisions with useful advices from friends and well-wishers, but it takes solely to rely on the the Holy Spirit to make the right decision. This is because advice from a friend that led to a positive result for Mr. A may not turn up also to be a positive result for Mr. B. It only takes a divine wisdom from God through the Holy Spirit to make the right decision.
