The Power of Past Experience

The Power of Past Experience! Hmmm

We never know at the time we are going thru a situation, particularly very challenging ones, that they would come in handy some day…but God is Faithful.

I recall that David’s confidence to face Goliath was based on his wilderness experience with the lion etc as he watched over his father’s flock in the bush. Joseph was able to forgive his brothers for selling him off into slavery because that act of theirs set him up for being a benefactor for his nation several years later. In his words, his brothers thought they were executing evil against him but God turned it around for good.

I recall when I was contacted by delegates from my State that I was needed to serve the State and one of them reminded me that I am a woman and that the work would be very challenging and that I would come under tremendous pressure. He wondered if I would be able to cope. Hmmm, I said my brother was recently kidnapped and I represented my family in the discussions with the kidnappers and I went alone “there” to secure my brother’s release. So I have been “there” and back, so I have no fear left in me so long as I am doing that which I believe is right. I am sure that for  the number of years I occupied that position, and he saw my resoluteness, that discussion always replayed itself.

I have a young friend that the wife was in the labour room and he was agitated. Oh his wife, she has been in labour for so long…I said don’t worry. You are talking with someone that has been in that room and brought forth a 4.5kg boy without complications. That the same God that saw me through is with his wife and would do the same. And behold he was comforted and the wife brought forth too.

A friend lost the mother and was wondering how he would be able to handle the funeral rites given his worrisome financial position, since in our area of the world people in your community really do not care about your pain but are more concerned with how you would meet up with their laid down expectations of what they consider a befitting rite of passage. I encouraged him, to just go ahead with the date and planning and everything would fall in place. I reminded him that when I lost my dad, he had just returned from a medical trip to India and we had spent all we had and even secured a loan for his treatment. The fare we paid to transport his remains from Lagos to Port Harcourt was borrowed…but God is Faithful. We gave our father a befitting passage. And of course, my friend returned to confirm that indeed he gave his mother a befitting passage.

So it is…in good times and not so good times God is preparing us for a greater tomorrow.

Nice piece, Lady Osila my sis. Indeed, the process of making earthenware is rigorous and even involves laying them in fire to bake, toughen and increase their resilience when in use. So it is with humans. Challenges toughen and teach great lessons. In all cases, the Hand of God is there to see us through.
