Managing Change in a Challenged Economy

In recent times the Nigeria Economy has experienced so much turbulence; it’s like a whirlwind. The terrible security situation, unchecked blood letting, devaluation of the Naira, rising level of unemployment, lull in business activities are some evidences.  Although the government claims it’s fighting and winning the war on corruption & insecurity; the modus operandi has made the scheme very questionable and the economy almost on its knees.

2015 was the 1st time in our democracy that an incumbent lost his bid to retain the Presidential seat. Although it was unsettling,  it was a welcome development because it killed the myth that we can’t unseat an incumbent.

Agreed that change is constant and inevitable but how we manage it is paramount as it determines whether we fail or succeed.

After the 2015 victory that heralded CHANGE, what happened? They did not carry through with the promises made.

In my opinion, a challenged economy like ours need tried, tested and trusted hands. We need a combination of competent politicians and technocrats; the public and private sectors coming together to rebuild it.

We’ve wobbled and fumbled. We also have our strong points. Three & half years down the line…? Elections are a few days away 🙆 So many people want to become the next President. Is there sincerity of purpose by the players? How do we tell? The mind’s construction is not written on the face. Who can tell a man’s mind except his Maker?

Could we afford a change at the Center again just after 4years? If you ask me, I’d say No. It’s not advisable. We are too fragile to handle that.

We have brilliant minds that have come forth to contest for Presidency. However, only one candidate would win. Why don’t we enter into negotiations and invite these candidates and others to form part of the Economic Recovery Team. We should infuse the current Executive Team with more competent people. Let’s hold hands to deliver our country out of the snare.

Wait a minute…Yar’Adua to Goodluck to Buhari to Buhari or Atiku 🤔 Could we take a critical look at this pattern?  #justasking

Let’s be wise. Think Nigeria!

Apt…. we expected much and got little. We need to be very sure on who we elect into these offices to ensure our economy bounces back

Again we are faced with same choice as always; To choose between the lesser of two evils, either way we are facing the barrel. It doesn’t seem like we would ever get out of this, be that as it may I think we would be better off to risk a change in the center, I kinda like the personality and resume of Peter Obi, if given an enabling environment I believe he can come up with some positive innovations.

Many thanks Moses. Peter Obi is being proposed as Vice President, remember?

  • Managing change is about handling the complexity of the process. It is about evaluating, planning and implementing operations, tactics and strategies and making sure that the change is worthwhile and relevant. 3 Managing change is a complex, dynamic and challenging process. 4 It is never a choice between technological or people-oriented solutions but a combination of all. 5
