Committed Friends

Got one of these clips via WhatsApp with the caption “Beware of Friends”. It showed a man after a friendly conversation led the other by hand into a concealed ditch and turned back!

It got me thinking…

I agree that friends can be treacherous. That takes us back to are there “good” and “bad” friends? Personally I’m of the opinion that one is either a friend or not. They can however be on different levels of closeness.

Back to our narrative…I believe that each of us (you & I) could change this narrative. “How?” you may ask. “By committing to being that friend our friends don’t have to beware of.”

Imagine a situation where we are all forward looking because our friend has got our back! We would cover good distance in our race of life. No one can live in isolation and being paranoid is not healthy. There are sighs here and there about backstabbers and betrayals almost on a daily basis.

Could we commit? To be that friend that is dependable and sticks closer than a brother/sister?

Friends can destroy one another,a]
but a loving friend can stick closer than family.” Proverbs 18:24 God’s Word (GW) Translation

Interesting blog O5. I think the problem is we use the term friend too loosely. Some people are really only acquaintances and not really well known so when they reveal their true selves they are labelled bad friends but in actual fact were never real friends in the true sense of the word.
