Relationship Principles 2

Here I go again…thinking to myself and seeking to understand what relationship principles exist. Then I ask further, do relationship principles exist? And here is the outcome of my thoughts…

We are all created by God in His image and likeness yet I have never seen any two persons that look exactly the same and conduct themselves in an exact manner…not even identical twins…how then could we say there are universally applicable principles that drive relationships? Could that be why the Holy Spirit dwells in each and everyone of us to lead us into all truth given our unique differences and so we don’t have to look up to any human for absolute guidance?

So the questions keep on and on. Then I remember that in the multitude of counsellors there is safety…so possibly there are stuff people know that others could gain from too…so we seek advise but its not sacrosanct.

As I think and reflect and play back, I thought I should share my thoughts on relationship principles…

  • Identify and develop my personal principles. The standards I set for myself
  • Treat others (my friends, colleagues, co-sojourners etc) as I would that others treat me
  • Get to know them, as opportunity allows to ascertain what their preferences are
  • Crosscheck their preferences against my principles…do they enhance, diminish or have no effect on my principles?
  • If they diminish my principles, I ignore and treat them as I would want them to treat me
  • If they enhance or are of no consequence, I oblige them and treat them as they desire

But in all of these, the wisdom of God and the understanding therefrom are paramount.

Learning is unending and so principles even for thriving relationships can be learned, unlearned and relearned…so stay true always!

What are your thoughts?
