Take Responsibility For You

The need for each one of us to take responsibility can never be overemphasised. This fact faced me again today and I would spend a few minutes sharing it. Please come with me.

The context reading is from the conversation Jesus had with the man with a thirty-eight years infirmity. John 5:1-8 NKJV

Jesus knew the man’s story, his circumstances and all, yet when He got to him, He asked him “Do you want to be made well?” This tells me that we have a responsibility to decide what we want out of life.

The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” John 5:7

It is interesting to notice that rather than answer the specific question, he chose to play the victim.

In response, Jesus simply told him to pick up his mat and walk, that is, take responsibility. He could have stretched out His hand to help him stand. Or help him with his mat, but He didn’t.

So as we face life and it’s challenges, let us resolve that we own our processes and trust God to step in where our efforts fall short.

Learning from this too, is the role we play as helpers. Rather than scold our beneficiaries or proteges, we should simply point them in the direction they should go.
