As the Arguments on SARS Rages

The talks about SARS have taken on a life of its own, I dare say.

SARS by the way is the acronym for Special Anti-Robbery Squad. It’s an arm of the Nigerian Police Force under the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID).

As much as possible I avoid entering into arguments I don’t have first hand information about. Though people may argue that an injury to one is an injury to all and I would agree. However, I also need to know what the source of that injury is.

Back to our SARS matter. Nigerians have consistently complained about the high-handedness of these men. They’ve been disbanded severally and come to think about it; they were never unbanned so how come the consistent banning? This goes to buttress our recurring reality; we lack the capacity or the willingness to enforce directives!

Today 11/10/2020, the Federal Government of Nigeria has succumbed to the pressure and protests and announced the disbandment of SARS. One of the action point is that the officers would be redeployed to other units of the Police Force. Now, was the challenge with the unit or the people manning it?

It is apparent from my point of view, that either our leaders do not understand the problem or they have chosen to just gloss over it.

The outcome, we shall see as the days unfold. Our journey is still far but we shall get there.
