Quotes to Note as We Vote
As I thought about the forthcoming elections; barely a week away and what our votes stand to say for us as a people, the quote about the ant in the Bible popped up. So I would just share some quotes that inspire me and hope it does the same for you.
“Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest. How long will you lie there, you sluggard?
When will you get up from your sleep?” Prov 6:6-9 (NIV)
“You lazy fool, look at an ant. Watch it closely; let it teach you a thing or two. Nobody has to tell it what to do. All summer it stores up food; at harvest it stockpiles provisions. So how long are you going to laze around doing nothing? How long before you get out of bed?” Pov 6:6-9 (MSG)
The story of the ant tells me that my failure or success is not about the leader. It is about me. That it is about the informed decisions I take. So we shouldn’t allow the gimmicks and talks of the political office-seekers run us off track. Let us consider our lives thus far, their antecedents and decide on where we wish to go from here. With our firm resolve, let us listen to their campaign promises, ask the hard questions, seek clarifications and vote wisely.
“If it’s going to be, It’s up to me!” Robert H. Schuller Our vote can count and it should count. How would it not count? It is one of us that would aid and abet whatever side the pendulum swings. Would you be on the side that supports the wish of the voters and the people or would you be against the people? It is indeed up to us.
” I have the strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ gives me” Phil 4:13 (GNB) God through Jesus Christ can guide us to make the right decisions, if we so desire. He has also promised never to leave us nor forsake us. His promise stands sure whether we make the right choices or bad ones. We have His Spirit indwelling us to lead and guide us. By His strength, we shall face the circumstances of our decisions.
Let us vote wisely and shun all violence and criminal acts.
Instructive Piece. It’s an Election and Not War. Let’s all vote peacefully. God Bless Nigeria.
Nice one Osila.!
The scripture about the ant you quoted was quite apt.
Nigerians have been heeding to this injunction for so long, and that is why we still have a semblance of sanity in our society, in spite of the serial failures of our leaders.
Voting in Nigeria today and Rivers State in particular requires what I would call ‘sacrificial courage ‘.
With the experience at the last national assembly rerun election in my village, where SARS operatives invaded the polling center right in front of my father’s house shooting sporadically and carted away ballot boxes, killing a young man right beside the gate.
It is only people like you and I with implicit faith in God and fierce patriotism that in spite of the foregoing, would still resolve to go out and vote in a system where your safety can never be guaranteed.
But thank God there are still many like us!
Weeping may have endured over our long night of failure as a nation, but the joy of a new dawn beckons.
God bless you.
This is quite inspiring and I wish my good friend well .
