Would you rather grow up or go up?
Grow Up vs Go Up
One of the intriguing things I find about life is how some simple words could take up a larger than life meaning.
Yesterday the Pastor while preaching said it’s better to grow up than to go up. That phrase just hit me.
I quickly shared it on my Facebook page & kept thinking about it.
And today still thinking about it, I got an understanding that when you grow up, you are like a tree eg Iroko tree; deeply rooted in the ground with leaves that give shelter to others and the tree (you that’s grown up) doesn’t easily succumb to contrary winds and co. Viola!!!
You see, when you “grow up” it means you mature emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. This would entail developing character, self-awareness, and the ability to handle life’s responsibilities and relationships with wisdom.
While to “go up,” has more to do with rising in position, status, success, or visibility, or gaining popularity without necessarily developing the muscles needed, which I would liken to a building without firm foundation. “Eko for show”. 😜
Recall that God is not impressed with outward appearances but rather the inner man…for the things we see are temporary while the unseen are eternal.
When we go up without growing up, we lack the character and resilience to deal with the package that life brings. Grow up is internal. Go up is external but when we rise based on our character development, we become a formidable force that society so desperately needs.
If however you are stronger than where you are, you’ll be able to thrive no matter what comes along.
What’s your take? Would you rather grow up or go up?
Let’s hear from you.
