Managing Career In Uncertain Times

Our chosen career path often defines us. What then do we do in uncertain times when that career cannot sustain us?

Let me share my story.

I currently sell quality adire (tye & dye) and ankara fabrics. Back then I refused to study marketing.

I opted for Accountancy. I am a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. I also have a Master of Laws in International Business Law.

My career had seen me through several years in both the private and public sector.

In 2015, my public service work, which I left the private sector to handle came to an abrupt end!

I ought to have been absorbed into the State Civil Service, but that did not happen.

What then was I to do, with my numerous certificates, work experience & all? I do not know how to solicit for contracts and briefs and my responsibilities were staring me in the face.

Sincerely, my believe was that my competence would open doors for me and that did not happen.

So what next?

I needed something that would not just keep me busy and improve my liquidity position but also help me contribute positively to my society.

That’s how O4’s Clothings came into existence…to showcase Nigerian’s talent in the clothing world. I ensure my source is authentic by dealing with persons that dye as a tradition and passion rather than their way of making money.

My story is to remind us that notwithstanding the career we have chosen, when exigencies happen, we can comfortably make a swap.

The same diligence we put into our preferred choice, we should into the new path. It is who we are that adds colour to what we do.
