Succession for Political Party Faithfuls

Following the successful conduct of the primaries by our political parties, some matters have come up. Like how many Nigerian Youths are in the race in APC & PDP? These are the major parties and therefore the model.

The same set of politicians within the same age bracket have maintained their position; the youths are on social media or serving as advisers. The older generation are rotating between Government House and National Assembly/State Assembly.

So?

Do political parties have any succession plan in place by which the older ones teach and hand over to the younger ones (their followers and supporters)? Or is it that those in power remain in power (just recycle themselves between Government House and National Assembly & the like) while their supporters bootlick and quarrel on social media? Perhaps they get appointed as Special Assistants (whatever that means) and Special Advisers (who even listens to their advise?)

So after all the gragra of the past 3years, how many people (youths) were elevated? They’ve worked diligently. In organisations, promotion would not be out of place.

If the forms & processes are expensive for the youths, couldn’t they have been sponsored?

I no fit lie. I feel disappointed & weak with what I see all around. Perhaps the leaders and followers should have an honest conversation or na so dem go dey go? When would our change happen? We have to make this change be. We need to have a rethink!

The aristocratic syndrome exhibited by the current crop of politicians can be traced to the traditional African monarchy system, where only death strips the royals of their privileges. To worsen their idiosyncrasies, they were all born into the master-slave environment created by the “Colonial Masters.” So, I don’t blame them, my contention is with the youths, themselves.

The old dogs are able to toy with our youths because most of them are ruled by emotion, not by intellect. Their interests are in trivialities like why Wenger is better than Mourinho; throwing a “Pirates of the Caribbean Party or something more crazy; or simply applauding the looters of their common wealth, who are repositioning themselves for more onslaughts.

They sheepishly follow political parties with “structure.” How has the evil structure without a National Development Roadmap, or common succession planning helped Nigerians almost 20yrs after the return of democracy?

Some good people have presented themselves. If we fail to vote the right President in 2019, we have ourselves to blame. If democracy is failing a nation repeatedly, it is people’s failure, not the politicians’.
