Choices and Consequences

Thinking about the choices we make and their attendant rewards cum consequences.

My mind takes me back to the consequences of my decision to jump without looking except on that conviction that God is ordering my steps.

Back while I was working in the private sector, I had a call that I had been headhunted to come serve my State and lead one of the Agencies as an Executive Chairman. With the zeal to serve I took a plung without thinking about the possible consequences aka risk factors and consider possible mitigate aka “securing myself”. So I took a leave of absence, but when I got there I was told I needed to become a civil servant so I had to resign from the private sector. As someone with private sector orientation and the zeal to project my training as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria 🇳🇬 with a strong affinity for controls and processes as well as the desire to “speak for my land” I went all out to fully express myself in my State. I ensured contracts my State entered into with service providers as relates to my Agency were honored by all parties. I ensured the staff were accorded their due space and respect as well as rewards. I ensured the laws were followed as much as possible. I ensured someone could speak for the voiceless. I even followed due process and got some youths employed and those that had been casual workers for upwards of seven years got permanent employment. The Agency became the toast of town. Everyone desired to be a part of the story.

Today all that is over and I’m left high and dry. But I’m a happier person somewhat when I look back at those that if not for me (God used me) may never have gotten the opportunity they have today.

I believe that each and everyone of us should look out for the other, particularly for those that can’t look out for us or themselves. That to me is the real essence of our existence and the opportunities God brings our way.

“God is our Shelter and Strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not be afraid, even if the earth is shaken and mountains fall into the ocean depths; even if the seas roar and rage, and the hills are shaken by the violence.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭46:1-3‬ ‭GNB‬‬

The decisions and the choices that we make will not only affect us, but those close to us and will live with us forever. God gave us the opportunity to chose wisely and choices made based on the word of God, no matter how the whole world look at it, will always turn out for our good. So, in making a decision, I must think of not just myself, but those close to me because of the attendent consequences.
