Critically Assessing our Faith
“How we exercise our faith could cause us to feel confident or fearful!”
One of my many cravings is to learn something new daily…particularly that which increases my knowledge and today one on faith as indicated above dropped. Many thanks to YouVersion. I’ve got to share this with you my friends.
Let’s see what our Bible says about faith.
To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things we cannot see. Heb 11:1 GNT And so the follow up question is “What exactly do you hope for? What are you certain about?” I am one that is almost always fearful. And I go “Good things don’t come to me.” “I won’t voice out my request else the opposite would happen.” So I constantly have an expectation of bad things happening to me. Friends and family ask me why I don’t stay positive? Why I keep expecting the worst end to come to me? Even the phone rings and my heart would cut “expecting” the caller to have some bad news! Funny right? Does it ring familiar? That is exercising our faith negatively. That is being sure that negative things would come to us. Being certain that those things we’ve not seen are not in our favour!
Definitely, negative faith is not what God expects of us, for how could we please Him if we have negative expectations? But the good news is that we can deliberately tune our thoughts and expectations to the person of God through Jesus Christ believing His promise that His thoughts for us are for positive outcomes. That way our faith even as small as the mustard seed would move mountains and obstacles and keep us in a state where we eagerly wait for each knock, call, message, visit and each day with great expectations.
I have started the process of relearning and declaring God’s word over me and it’s so refreshing! “Osila God’s got your back 247…His thoughts towards you are of good. You will hear good news and good will come to you. You are precious in God’s eyes and so He has surrounded you with goodness and mercy & on & on…”
I invite you to relearn like I am doing.
“No one can please God without faith, for whoever comes to God must have faith that God exists and rewards those who seek him.”
Hebrews 11:6 GNB
“I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for.”
Jeremiah 29:11 GNB declares the Lord.

Reassuring piece….One favourite scripture that reassures me of the efficacy of my confessions and hope is in Heb 11:13 and it goes thus: Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.. Personally I think a life without faith in God’s word would literally fizzle out when the storm comes…Faith can be likened to a sail in a good wind and an Anchor in a stormy weather.
So true Moses. It’s expedient that we focus our faith on the Word of God. That’s the only way we can get through life.
Nice write up, it is true when we have negative thoughts about ourselves even when things are going well it will end bad but when we think good about ourselves and expect good, good will come to us
We need a reorientation on the whole concept of Faith. Our society encourages us to expect the worst, so that we are not ‘overwhelmed’ by any negative experiences we might come across.
As Children, we are blessed with a very high dose of faith in our parents and the world at large. This is the Christ-like faith Jesus talks about in Luke 18;17. Unfortunately for us in this part of the world, as we grow up, the society robs us of this stubborn faith.
We need to believe again in God’s love and His goodness. This is the only way to experience that peace that passeth all understanding.“Relearning and declaring Gods word” is very key in our walk with God. I say this because, it is not enough to know Gods word as it is contained in the written pages of the bible and not do anything with it. Speaking (confessing, declaring) should come right after reading/studying. Notice this in (Rom 10:10) – “for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth CONFESSION is made unto salvation”. For me, voicing your faith is a fundamental spiritual/kingdom principle that assures and enables our living over and above all limitations and circumstances. To believe isn’t enough; there must be the corresponding verbal communication or affirmation of your faith.
