Friendly Boss Challenge

I have always been an Office person…a Career woman; as such I spend majority of my living in the office working. If most of my time is spent in the office, its imperative that the work environment should promote a friendly boss/subordinate atmosphere where opinions of many thrive. The office environment should be so friendly that the hours you spend “making money for your boss” is not laborious. This comes with its challenges, as often there is the “see finish syndrome” that may creep in, if not well managed.

It is my considered opinion that every environment derives its fragrance from the boss, leader, management, head…and so we search for a friendly boss for a friendly work environment but this comes with its challenges. The boss leader has the leeway to create an atmosphere that all others could key into. The friendly boss should be interested in developing the professional in his team. She should set the right tone and enable her colleagues to both be inspired and guided on acceptable pattern of conduct. It means she should be both empathic and firm.

The boss should set the boundaries and like I regularly tell myself and my colleagues “I am glad we are friends. Without this work I wouldn’t have had the privilege of meeting you. As a sign of my appreciation to my employers, I would not allow our friendship to mess up the objectives of my employers!”

I agree with the tips put forward by Harvard Business Review and I welcome you to take time and go through them. And if you agree too, why not put them into practise and let’s create that workplace known for its friendly boss that overcomes the everyday challenges to produce phenomenal results? If you don’t agree and/or you have other ideas, it would be great if you share them.
