Politics, Elections & Matters Arising

Following from the outcome of Elections in the past 3years, I have observed a trend. Incumbents are being voted out! Ruling parties are losing.

Looking from the sideline, I believe Nigerians are tired and angry of being abused by persons they entrust with governance. Their frustration shows in elections. I would say their response now is to vote out whoever is there and quite often when you act out of anger you hardly make the right decision and at that point you just don’t care.

For the sake of our land, local government to federal government, could the major players rethink?

It would appear that the politicians seem not to care anymore. They appear to have thrown decorum out the window. They joggle among themselves on how to benefit from the failings of those in power. Often their intention is not to get governance right. It’s to get into the saddle themselves and do their own thing!

When elephants fight, the grass suffers, is a popular adage. Our land cannot speak for itself. Let us (humans) notwithstanding our political inclination give some consideration to the good of the land.

Elected officers should pay their workers, contractors and create enabling environment for investments and employment. They should ensure safety of lives and properties. These activities would cause developments to happen. When you win an election, you now have an opportunity to serve the people.

The populace should be supportive. They should provide constructive criticism and feedback, cut down on bootlicking and hero worshipping. Let’s speak truth to government and ourselves.

Nigeria is a great country. Nigeria can be greater if we could all join hands to make it happen.
